Based in Chicago and Paris, TEMPER publishes a variety of projects unattached to literary establishments or operating in opposition to existing models. Our press aims to foster and condition daring, inventive, and synthetic work in unclassified or unclassifiable forms.

We are interested in work that delivers exacting shocks: true fabrications, the epic of the minor, miniatures, risk, and heteroclites.

Founding editors

We founded TEMPER at the convergence of our three distinct voices, looking to chart the triangulations between poetry, prose poetics, and original forms. We define a “micro-movement” as a particularly modular set of relationships, as opposed to another “-ism.” In identifying our own micro-movement, we became aware of the existence of—and overlap between—others’, both inside and outside of what is deemed literature. Our press provides a gauntlet for tempering these complex interrelationships.
